Anybody know a good way to keep a household supply of potatoes from sprouting while in storage? Do I have to say that i used a Farmall cub to plow my garden? Just keepin it YT

You can delay it by doing what was suggested below. But there ain't no stopping it. Just break the sprouts off and use the taters. Twon't hurt nothin.

If the sprouts are removed this time of year the potatoes will firm back up and keep another couple of months. Definitly got to keep them cool and in the dark all the time.

PLEASE, DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, but I could swear that I read years ago that potatoes would not sprout if stored with an apple. Ratio of potatoes to apples was not said. I think they were talking one apple per sack of potatoes. As they say, your mileage may vary..... .

Yes, store them with apples, and not only will it delay the potatoes from sprouting, but your apples will stay fresh too!

Hi moonlite,

Keep them seperated from one another with straw or bury in sand in a cool dark place. Basements or cellars are great.

I remenber years we kept then in a seperate room down celler where it was cool and dark.
