A while back, I bought a JD 7520.Have been using it for disk ripping, chiseling, etc. The rear main seal was leaking, so a neighbor and I split it and repaired the engine clutch while apart. Works good now. I'm wondering about the reliability of the 531c.i. vs. the problem-prone 619. Mine is stone stock, and does all I ask of it. My only complaint is the noise-seems the gear noise and vibration travel up the roll-bar supports. Kinda like sitting in a big tuning fork for hours on end. I've run many 4020s, 4320s, and 4620s and none were this loud. I'm wondering if any old plowjockeys from the 1970s have any suggestions for silence or other tips for keeping this old dinosaur running.

The 619 was fine in anothering other than in an articulated tractor of the 40 vintage. The frame wasn't stiff enough and torqued the block/head/cam/crank out of alignment. No suprise then when it leaked or broke the crank.

Thanks for the info. Did the crankshaft problems develop with or without dozer blade attachment? A friend is shop foreman at a large JD dealership, and claims a blade is the curse of death for an older Deere 4WD. Frame on 7520 looks to be lighter than 8630. To my knowledge, my old 7520 never had a blade mounted, so I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Hi I think I have heard guys put sand in the roll bars to help the vibration and noise. Just a thought.

Thanks for all the comments and tips. I'll try the chain and turnbuckle trick, see if that helps, along with carpet padding. Rollbar frame is solid on these instead of hollow, probably due to heavier weight of machine. When we did the clutch split, the engine stayed in front half of the tractor, and wasn't taken out of the frame. Engine was overhauled 1000 hrs. ago, so no need for an underhaul.

Those old tractors are noisy. One thing that I think helped mine was to put a chain with a turn buckle about midway up on the roll bar supports. They vibrate and thus set up a high noise level.

I liked to put a layer of foam carpet pad down and then some cheap indoor-outdoor carpet. I usally got remnants or throwaways at the carpet store.Anything was better than the stock insulation in those old cabs.

the only thing i would of done, is when you had the motor out change the bearing in the bottom end, a $300 dollar fix now will save you $10,000 later, or wrecking the tractor
