Has anyone heard of a transmission like this? I can only find information on 3/4/5 speeds.

Are there any WWII guys out there that drove Dodge
trucks, if so, do you remember such a thing? The New Departure was used in a lot of Dodge trucks.

Thanks for any information you may have.

I've worked on several New Process, mostly 5-speed trannies, but never heard of a 6 speed.
As far as I know, Fuller made several 8 and 10 speeds (some of the Road Rangers). You might try contacting D Miller @ AntiqueDodgePowerWagons or try contacting Dave Carillo . They'll most likely need a picture rather than a casting number. They've always been real helpful.

New Departure/Hyatt is /was a bearing manufacturing co. New Process, a division of Chrysler makes/made Transmissions & transfer cases. Not Positive , but I think they joined with GM to form New Venture. My 2001 Dodge has a 6-speed New Venture transmission, I believe the model is NV5600.

all of us that are a little gray remember New Departure as the sweetest coaster brake a bicycle ever had. Of course when you took it apart (as most boys who later became tractor men would have done) all those little brass and steel washers sure were a puzzle to re-assemble.

Jim, Being slightly more than a little gray, I do remember the New Departure Coaster brakes on bicycles. I also remember the first time I took one apart at age maybe 7, and the adventure of trying to get it back together right. I did, with lots of cursing seldom uttered by a 7 year old kid, and have been attracted to anything mechanical or greasy ever since.

Jim, is that the kind that had the steel ring in it that the tang would break off of, and you had no brakes? You take it apart, bend a new tang up with a pair of pliers, put it back together and go back to sliding the wheel. Steve in Texarkana
