Are any of you aware of a mandated safety program That Case IH offered to replace the original Farmall filler caps with the newer dome styles?

Took two of them back in the last two years. A super C and a H. Give them the old one, filled out a form and walked out with the new cap. Took about 2 min. at my local Case I-H dealer in Mich. May have taken the one back on my 504 but can't remember, but it does have the new one on it. They came painted black and I did have to paint them to match. For what its worth?

Yeah I got 2 last year too. I sent in the form as my local Case/IH dealer had quit fooling with them. I think Navistar is acutally who is responsible for providing them. And yeah they were painted black.

Don't email Mark Clark - he cannot do anything with emails. You must mail the form in...

I believe Ford does as well. The IH program was very well advertised years ago, all the farm papers. The non-vented caps caused a couple of explosions, and to prevent the huge liability claims, they offer (ed?) free vented gas caps for all your older IHC machines. It was part of the legal settlement.

Not sure the program is very active any more, but visit a dealer & see if you qualify - at one time you needed each tractor's serial number & you'd get a gas cap mailed to you.

Why would they mandate a program on old iron? Are
we to expect a local Constable to remove the 50
year old gas cap, leaving a legal document under
your front door? Since AGCO will not even sell parts for tractors, about 30 years old, why will
IH bother with the Super H?

You might need to try another AGCO dealer,as I have never had a problem getting parts for my AGCO stuff that is 30-40 years old. Last year I needed to replace radiator hoses and brake springs on my 63 model Moline/AGCO big mo 400 with rear forklift. They only made around 150 of this model, but I thought nothing lost by asking. I almost laughed when the parts guy apoligized for not having the parts on the shelf, but assured me he would have them in a few days. The big brown truck delivered the parts within a week and I noticed the molded hoses had a build date of 2002,so were not somthing that had been on a shelf for 20-30 years.
As to the IH gas cap? As others have said, They have to protect themselves from some idiot sueing them over a 50 year old part that only became dangerous many years after it was built because of a change in the fuel. While thumbing through the yellow pages in our phone book I noticed the most pages devoted to one service was lawyers!!

Talked to Mark Clark--This program is still in effect for qualified tractors. He is no longer involved but the form is still good. The danger is caused by the more volatile modern gasolines.

Because they have to...
The old caps were dangerous and so to avoid litigation they offer a replacement free. I have two of them, I didn't even have a serial number for one of the tractors but they sent me a cap just the same. I wrote "unknown" in the serial number spot.
It took a LONG time though, like 8 months, but I got 'em.
