Anyone of you guys done this? I have the stuff but want to do neat job and keep it all IH. I'm not a puller nut but do want to use it on the pulley and pto at shows, etc. Don't want to use automatic because of length. Wonder if M flywheel could be adapted to v8,as I could use M starter, clutch, etc.

Just finished putting one in a 560 a 345. It takes a lot of cutting to get it between the frame rails.I used a 345 from a 915 combine because it has a govener on it. I turned down the combine flywheel to accept the 560 ring gear The combine flywheel is about 20 lbs lighter than the 560's and about5/8in bigger dia. It takes a spacer between the crank and the flywheel so the clutch and starter will work another small problem I see with an M is the bottom radiater outlet is on the wrong side, that space in front fills up fast. with moving the oil filter up there. and mounting the alternator. up there and having room for an electric fan. I think the M is very doable. If I can help just Email me

One HUGE concern I would have with using the original "M" cast iron flywheel is it flying apart, those flywheels first off are not well balanced, plus by now most probably have hairline cracks in them. It would be a very bad scene if you put a V8 in your "M", and had the flywheel let loose at 4000 RPM!! There would be pieces in the next township!! Playing with the old tractors is a lot of fun, and we can do some really neat things, but we have to be sure to practice safety as well.

I believe this one had an IH v-8 in it, I think it was on eBay a while back...

I saw an M with a 345 at a local threshing show a couple of years ago. I looked VERY nice and sounded sweet. I don't know who owned it, but it can be done.

I haven't done a conversion like that but I'd sure like to see one. Here's a pic of an H with a flathead Ford (I think). I posted this a few weeks ago trying to find out who owns this tractor. I originally saw it on the farmall board about a year ago.
