Excuse the stupid question but how do I set the brakes on my tractor? A piece of firewood placed in front of the wheel works ok but there must be an easier way . Thanks

There is a long (30") piece of rigid wire with a loop in the top at the rear of each side of the seat. The other end of the wire(s) connect to a gear which meshes with a gear attached to the rear of the break pedal arm.

Correct application of the brakes is to depress the desired brake (firmly) and pull up on the wire which locks the brake teeth into the pedal teeth. Then release both and the brake pedal stays down in the depressed position.

To realease merely tap the brake pedal which allows the brake teeth to fall away from the pedal teeth and the brake pedal arm returns to the relaxed (horizontal) position.

The brake toothed gear must be able to float freely. If it is jammed up with rust or paint it won't work.

Usually on these older tractors some or all parts are missing and complicates the process.

Hope this helps,

Mark
