I just bought a restored Ford 8N with a Deerborn trip bucket. The bucket will pick up a good size load, but I can't get it to dump. The trip lever/piston is working fine. It looks like there was some modifications done on the lip portion of the blade. The pins/bucket swing freely, but the balance seems off. Before I start adding weights, etc. I'm Looking for any sugestions or a picture of a properly mounted bucket.

A very common problem, just lower the bucket to the ground, pull the trip lever, and raise the loader back up. It should dump.

That is a common problem with trip buckets, when its loaded you are putting a lot of weight on that pin and it doesn't want to be pulled because of that weight. That is one of the reasons there aren't many of them around now days. If it was my loader I'd remove the trip and put a cylinder on it.

I will try that thanks. Had somebody over this weekend and they seemed to think the holes for the pins on the bucket have been moved. The holes are in about dead center if you were looking at it as a whole barrel. Any thoughts.

These things sold new for about $40.- $60. dollars, so as the little boys says, what do you expect for nothing?
Dirt falls off the front of the scoop while traveling, making it heavy in the rear, and leaving it out of balance, Especially loose dry dirt. Sometimes you can help matters by taking up on the top link and going slower so the front dirt won't fall off. I know that taking up on the top link will let dirt fall off, but letting it out throws the thing out of balance to the rear, plus it won't take the ground when loading. This is where a hyd top link would come in handy, but that is just something to dream about. Undisturbed fresh dirt hauls and loads better. Having built a fish pond back in the 50s and other work, I have moved several million lbs of dirt with Dearborn scoops and I have used other brands that are not as good. Dearborn or Ford is the top of the line. I still own one today. U gotta get down with a wheel barrow to really appreciate the thing, so like the above post said just let it down at times to be tripped. goof
