Last winter I bought a '39 F20 with split rims on the rear. I have heard of rear split rims on some of the early tractors but I have never actually seen any until now. This tractor has the 36" cast centers. Are these rims aftermarket or could they have come from the factory?

Thanks for all of the info. Yes, they do look like they would be very dangerous to work with. Years ago I was in a gas station that had a big dent in the ceiling from a ring that flew off of an uncaged truck tire.

F-20's were with either 28 or 36in rims.In 1938 and 1939 they used a cast wheel on the 36in .these all had the ring lock rims. These were F&H also.

My 1940 Oliver 70 has a set of 36 inch split rims. Both are rusted out and need replaced. I will replace them with normal solid rims if I can. From what I've heard, split rims can blow apart when airing the tires up.

I don't know if the are factory or not but I have a 1937 F-12 with cast centers and split rims. They are rusted out now. Would have to look and see what size they are.

By 'split rims' I mean the kind of rims that we used to see on trucks. You know, the ones with the ring on the outside. I know this tractor isn't the only one sporting them.

I have been around tractors for a lot of years and never noticed a lock, or split ring rim, also worked at a service station that repaired most of the tires in two counties, and the only split, or lock rings that came in were for trucks and 3/4 ton pickups. They had to be unusual south of the Mason Dixon line. goofus
