I have been having a problem with my 850 since I bought it, I can not get the PTO to disengage, If I try to move the lever on the side it will not move, if I unbolt the PTO shaft and try it I can move the lever and it pushes the PTO shaft right out of the tractor. I found with the shaft out the lever moves smoothe and free, changed the PTO shaft and got the same results. I opened up the tractor today and I took the part out that slides up and down the shaft it will only slide onto the shaft part way and it feels like it jambs, I looked inside the splines look good so I tried it on a shaft from an 8N and it slide down beutifully. So my question is what do I look at next? Am I missing something?

Twisted the PTO shaft so very slightly could hardly tell it but was just enough to cause the problem you described. Bought one from a tractor salvage yard and installed it. Problem solved.

I hit a low cut stump bush hogging a neighbor's field with my 850. The PTO shaft was twisted just enough to bind the slide. Bought a new replacement piece from NH that came with a new bearing and all, bigger OD on the shaft so I don't have to use an adapter anymore. Seems like it was right around $125.00. Good luck.
