we are in a wet part of Florida and would like to plan out an attack on the critters;what unusual control methods have worked for you? Does anyone still make the lites with suction devices?

In small ponds, put a couple of drops of light weight oil, the oil spreads out on top of the water causing the larva to suffocate as they can not breath as they can not break through the surface tention of the oil. Ssame applies for tiers with water.

2 products used in tandem virtually eliminates them.

Tempo SC Ultra:

When used properly, an application will last about a month to 6 weeks in dry weather, and 2 to 3 weeks in damp weather.

8ml treats 1000 sq ft of yard.

Most farm supply/chemical houses will have it. It's safe around pets and kids as long as you keep them off until it dries. It's used in restaurants, nursing homes, etc.

It is harmful to fish.

PDF data sheet here: www.bugpage.com/pdf/labeltemposc.pdf

Since we've started using that, our yard is like a barrier. Once you step out of it, you are eaten alive, but once back in, you are fine. Spraying trees, etc also helps.

If the Morons in D.C. hadn't outlawed DDT, We wouldnt be having this discussion, we'd just hitch our TRACTOR to the sprayer and drown the little Malaria, and encephalitis carring critters.

The WL&F is going to get you for killing our state bird !!!!! shame...shame !!!!!

Well to tell you the truth the only thing that has worked for me here in the La. swampland is staying inside or screening the porch. Even then they find you. Have heard that those new propane things work pretty good but have no personal experience with them.
As stated Martins are fun to watch and eat mosquitoes. Better choice is Bats. Sometimes hard to get them to move in because they are particular where they live but worth the try. Better yet pray for some cold weather to knock them down or you could always move up north and put up with that white stuff.

Remember to use your TRACTOR to carry the bird or bat house into the field.

Aha life in the south... enjoy....

martin gourds on metal poles about 16-20 feet in the air work extremely well as martins eat 2 1/2 times there body weight a day in mosquitos. Put them up in mid feb. and take down and clean out and store till next year after they leave in late summer. For more info do a search for martins on the internet P.S. these little guys are fun to watch with areial displays like you've never seen

I think their reputation is a little over rated as far as mosquito control. I have twelve gourds up and the martins more than earn their keep just for the entertainment if they never do eat a mosquito. And for the Forum Police, I can see them while mowing from my "TRACTOR"!
