What is the value of a running Oliver 2255 with front wheel assist and cab? Has 3 pt. hitch and 23.1 x 34 tires on rear, and Cat 3208 engine in it, suppose to be good. Jerry

Sorry, got off the original question. Make sure the 3 speed Hyda Shift is working. The High side is usually the first to go out. As for the FWD, this is something that will be expensive to fix if it needs parts. This tractor is somewhat of a collectable.

When 3208's came out( they put them in 613 elevating scrapers) every excavator was worried because they were not sleeved engines. Got the nickname of"throw away" engines. They turned out to be very dependable, and many have been bored and sleeved. I've owned quite a few, including the one in my White 4-180 and have NO complaints.
Good luck on the tractor, you'll like it!!Larry

For years I was told that 3208 Caterpillars were junk. I often wonder how these rumors get started. I ran 4 of the 3208's to over 8,000 hours each, before overhauling them. Guess it has to do with how well you take care of them. As for "you can't rebuild them", I will take all the 3208 cores you will give me. I still run 3 of the 3208's and have no fear of them giving trouble.

Basic maintenance keeps these engines running,
after critics condemed them as 'throw-away'. If
you drop the pan at 2000 hours, check the crank
bearings, they purr on and on. The White 4-210 was
a great bargain, with the bankruptcy & 3208 runner
I had a Ford F8000 w/almost 9K hours, had new crank bearings, injector tips, when I sold it, ran
for 3 more years(blowby), replaced. That Oliver is
probably equal or better than another 150 HP MPFA.
After 30 years, you need to check it thoroughly.

I always heard the 3208s are great truck engines, lousy tractor engines.
