We have a 140 Farmall with a belly mower and we're also looking into installing a 3-point hitch. I went back into the archives and from reading a few posts, I got pretty discouraged about the 3 point option in terms of using a bush hog. The offset PTO seems to be the problem. Are there no options available for installing a PTO driven mower with a 3 point? Also, any advice on a good 3 point? Anyone have any photos I could look at? I don't see anyway to set up a 3-pt as the belt pulley PTO seems to be in the way. Also, this one doesn't have the lift bar across the fenders like our Super A.

I use my 140 with a 5' bush hog and have never had a problem as long as my common sense was in gear. Three or four foot bushes are no problem but would be hesitant to go much larger than that. Seems to be at least as good as my NAA plus you are up high enough that you are not getting hit in the back all the time. I'm sure the u-joints will wear faster running at a angle but the angle is not extreme and they will probably out last me. Worksaver 3 point works fine but I believe the attachment of the lift arms could use some improvement, not enough flexibility. Even used it to plow the garden last fall using a Ford 2-14 plow. Pulling it was not problem and a lot easier to control than the NAA. Hope this helps, remember a ORC is a must and watch those banks and hillsides.

Kevin...I have a 1948 Super A with a 3 pt that I bought from Worksaver. I'm happy with it and I use it with a 4 ft 3 pt bush hog, along with a cultivator, sub-soiler and a potato plow. No problems to date.
You do need to get that piece that fits across the fenders and you'll need the rod that connects the front rockshaft to that cross piece.
It's certainly not the most heavy duty 3 pt around but it's good for a lot of jobs. I'll look and see if I have any pictures around that I can send as email attachments to you.

We have a 140 we bought new in 1980 it had a three point hitch since new. We have used a bush hog and have never had a problem. The three point is useful with a carry-all or a blade but not with a plow. Email with more questions.

D kite,

The one we have definitely isn't that new. I haven't tried to find the serial # yet. Could you send some photos of your 3-point setup or post them on this site under "parts & pieces"? I don't have your email--you did the right thing to hide it. I'm at klagarde-at-att-dot-net. (Set the address up like regular to get it to work.)

Thanks.
