I just bought this tractor a week ago and decided to change the hydraulic filter and hy-tran fluid. I drained the fluid and changed the filter but when I started it up, I found that I don't have any hydraulic pressure. I ran it for several minutes, but nothing happened. I pulled the filter back off and it was dry. Do I have to prime the pump, or get oil back into the filter somehow so the pump will work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I plan on keeping this tractor a long time and will probably be asking many more questions. The hydraulics worked great before I changed the filter/fluid. Thanks for your help!

Hi,Marc, check under the filter, it have a pipe, loose the fitting, place a container and run the tractor 1200 RPM. When the oil come, stop and tight the fitting. It's the steering priority port, lossing the fitting will allow the air to escape from the system. Try to change filter, than run the tractor, before changing the oil. May be your pump is worn. Bernard,
Thanks for the tip. I did what you said and it worked great. Next time I change this stuff, I will do like you said, filter first, then oil. Thanks again for the help, it's much appreciated.

Bernard,
Your many contributions indicate a lot of experience with the 674, so hopefully you can provide some insights! I bought a 1974 674 last year with a loader, and it has worked well until recently. I started losing hydraulic power, and got even worse once the tractor got warmed right up. Within about 2 weeks(using 3 hrs/week), the bucket would barely lift and then actually stopped and won"t move at at, any direction. Oil is Hytrans, topped up and clean. I"ve been told it"s probably the pump but want to know if there are other things to check first, and also if I can verify if it"s the pump or not. Any info is much appreciated.
