Think it's OK to put WD40 in the cylinders for the winter or just streight oil. The WD is more convenient. Engine is free and I won't get back to it till spring.

For twenty years I have "pickled" the 440 Chryslers in my boat by slowly pouring Marvel Mystery Oil down the carb until they choke out. REMEMBER TO POUR IT SLOWLY OR YOU CAN HYDRO LOCK IT! It has worked well for me. They belch a cloud of blue smoke when you crank it in the Spring, but there is no corrosion or stuck rings. Rawleigh

like others have said, wd-40 probably not good for this purpose. if you want a spray in..there's a spray product call "engine fog" maybe. i think i got a can from john deere dealer but i'm sure napa or maybe chinamart has it.

You know, I got a can of engine fogger in the cellar. Never thought about that. Use it on my boat.

Thanks guys,

Didn't know what would be better. Got 4 squirts of Castrol GTX and a few cranks on the crank.

I agree with the previous post... wd 40 will evaporate... after it seeps past your rings & into your engine oil... creating a big mess. I would use something like an upper lube, or marvel mystery oil, etc... squirt in thru the spark plug hole & turn engine over a couple of times... maybe put in a squirt more, then replace plugs. BE SURE TO LOOSEN PLUGS & CRANK ENGINE OVER A FEW TIMES BEFORE RESTARTING!!! Liquid in the cylinders will not compress and will most likely crack pistons if you don't blow out as much as possible (by cranking with the plugs out) before starting.

wd 40 evaporates I would use good motor oil or just leave it alone if under cover or inside unlikely to stick.

Thanks Rod,

Gonna take the truck out and shine the lights on to do this then tarp it. No more room in the barn and tarps tend to hold in moisture.

WD-40 is actually a solvent. It will wash away any oil that was left on the cylinder walls, doing more harm than good. I would try a good motor oil, and let it go at that. JMHO. John

use whatever you put in the crankcase, wd-40 will encourage things to rust
