Was just watching that old holiday classic,It's A Wonderfull Life. The part where Jimmy Stewart aproaches the bridge and intends to jump off, there are two signs on the side of the bridge. The lower one reads-NO TRACTORS WITH LUGS.Never noticed that before! And also-A Merry Christmas to one and all!!

Back when I was a kid, there used to be signs of that nature attached to the post that held the stop sign at the corner where you would then turn onto a paved road. It referred to older, steel wheeled tractors with those deep lugs, apparently, those lugs would damage the pavement.

When I was a kid we lived on a gravel road. Had a neighbor with a steel wheeled tractor. When the township blacktopt the road they put up signs not to use tractors with lugs. He was there first. You would'nt beleve what the lugs could on a summer day...
