I looked at a Kawasaki Mule 3000 and 550. Then a Polaris Ranger. I see Sam's has a Rover that's reasonbly priced. What do you people like the best? Pros/Cons on any!

Thanks for your thoughts folks. A few models I haven't heard of mentioned here. I'll have to check them out. I definately want something like the Mule/Ranger/Gator etc. I need it to haul stuff and don't like straddling a seat

Happy Holidays!

I've got a 6x4 Gator and like it a lot, though it does backfire occasionally as someone said. It is the handiest thing i've got on my acreage. I use it every time I am out there and am darn happy to have it. I know people with Mules and Gators and both like their's a lot.

I watched for a used Polaris - came across 4 or so used Rangers and 2 had new motors after just a couple of years. According to a guy at a dealer, something about the the oil sump design lets water collect and if not watched for/oil changed, motor gets burned up.

The Cub Cadet Big Country looks nice - honda engine, more HP and faster than the Gator I beleive - but it was too new for me to take a chance.

One of the local mower dealers has a Toro dealership, and they sell a utility called the Toro Twister. My father borrowed it for a test drive, and he seemed to like it. Rides better and turns sharper than a Gator. The bed is plastic though, which could be a drawback. Price was cheaper than a Gator...

Don't forget, if you have a Kubota dealer around they are supposed to be coming out with a new vehicle very if shortly, if not already. Also, Cub Cadet has a vehicle very similar to the Gator except the back wheels in the 6X4 actually have suspension! Dad has a gator and HATES it. Dash has cracked, backfires, overheats and has had to replace the starter (250+$$), also seats replaced twice, once under warrenty. Its has been a handy vehicle though. Will cross the bottem even when wet with out leaving a track. Have only gotten it stuck once, that was in the creek when belt got wet. Let belt and pullys dry then drove out very slowly.

Good luck... and MERRY CHRISTMAS

I got a 6X4 gater as well. My dad's got an old JD AMT 626. The Gater is better. Having said that they both are good. The biggest draw back is dealing with JD for EXPENSIVE parts. The ride is not comfortable on either, but they will go through almost anything. The dump is a nice feature if you can afford it ($995 for the motor and screw hoist) but it will lift almost 1000# - don't do this too often though.

I use the buggy almost every day. It has done everthing from hauling 4 - 20' lengths of 10" shc40 pvc at a time to the field, fuel transporter, 8' one way disk set puller, and garden clean up.

I couldn't live without the little beast. Having said that, there are definatly room for improvements.

Merry Christmas and best wishes to all.

I would get the Polaris sportsmen 700 (v-twin) The ranger costs $9500 or more and has less ground clearance and has a 500CC engine, the ATV is more fun, cheaper and could do more work, I think--I have never driven a Ranger. Besides for $9500 you could get a new Simplicity Legacy XL tractor. I would get that tractor over a ATV or ranger.

Honda makes the best 4wheeler ATV cause they have kept the basic all purpose design for years and just do improvements on the little things. They might not be the greatest in a certain enviroment but they can go from a wet enviroment (creeks, rivers) to sandy areas without a problem (Polaris doesn't like the sand). The problem that I have with the 4wheelers are:
1) only one person can ride. Can't take Junior or Junior's Junior to check on his favorite calf.
2) they do make alot of noise that will stir up the wildlife. 3) you have to kick a leg up and over the seat in order to mount it, unlike the convential seating of a Gator, Mule, Ranger, ect.
4) they have a very limited cargo area. There is only so much room for rocks that are picked up from the field, fence mending equipment, spot spray gear, ect.

Utility Haulers would be the best route. Either a Gator or a Mule.

I have a Kawasaki Mule 550. It does everything I want it to do on the farm and more. It's a great machine and we have a great dealer here so that should account for something.

I bought a Honda Foreman 4x4 off Ebay last year. Don't know how I ever got along without it. If I was getting another one I'd get another Honda.
