I am a 14 year old boy very interested in restoring a tractor. My dream tractor to restor is a Allis Chalmer B, but I i dont have alot of money to spend. So i am looking at a Cockshutt and a model B John Deere the guy who is selling the JD will sell it to me for $800.00 and it is running, is that a good price? I am also wondering if the model B is know as the "putt putt"?

I think that $800 is a fair price, but I also think you could buy a B or C Allis for about the same money. I'm 25, but bought my first B allis at about the same age as you. Paid $950 for it in excellent condition. I later traded it to a young mans dad for a late model WD with a wide front, so the boy could enjoy the little B. I now have 2 M JD's, 2 AC C's, 1 MH Pony, 1DC Case, 1 WD AC, and 1 B JD. I paid $550 for the JD B in 1997, and put new rings in the motor. Now it runs like a top. Anyway, congratulations on getting "the fever". I wish you the greatest of luck. P.S. Get some others close to you hooked on tractors, then you'll have more to enjoy. With mine, my brother's and my Dad's we have 25 tractors.

I was 13 or 14 when I got my 37 JD B. And from there my collection grew. I have 2 Bs now and a Cockshutt and a JD 3010. The B I think was a very good first tractor and I wouldn't sell my 37 for anything. I am 21 now and in college don't get home much, but when I do I at least attempt to start it... Good Luck I paid $800 for my 39 B.

May have the Hyd. power-trol on the rear, but no 3pt., unless it is an aftermarket add-on.
