Can anyone tell me in terms of inches how far is the top of the piston down in the bore when it is at top dead center on a John Deere 70 gas or any other 2 cyclinder John Deere's that you may know.
Thanks in advance, Old Joe

I don't know nothin' bout John, dear, but any other engine I've seen the pistons come flush with the top. Why would the bore be longer than the stroke?

I think you need to consult your John Deere dealer. Otherwise you'll have to take the head off and measure it yourself. You might try a search in the John Deere section as well as asking this question in the Derre forum.

Nebraska...

Deere 2 cylinder gasoline tractor engines have the spark plugs screwed into the side of the BLOCK, rather than into the cylinder head, as is more common. There is not much of a chamber recess in the head. Therefore, due to the low compression these engines run, the piston DOES NOT come near the face of the block. That being said, I do not know any of the exact dimensions Old Joe is looking for.
