I did a search for Glyptol on "Google" and found a link from someone's post in some other forum. They were talking about Glyptol and said that you can only get Glyptol from GE.

The link was to: http://www.gesupply.com

Then, when I got there, I went to "Find Products" and that link gave me a "search" link, that was for the GE site.

When I searched for "Glyptol" I got an entire page of Glyptol, Inc. products (evidently Glyptol is a Name Brand)... among which are alkyd enamels and varnishes.

Hope this helps!

hot rod magazines in the 70's used glyptol. i never knew if it was a brand name or aactual type of paint..it was used to seal the pores in the cast iron.

Red Oxide was the most often used paint.

The only knowledge that I have about painting the insides of the engine casting... is for the purpose of sealing the pores of the castiron, so that any dirt and grit will not lodge in the pores and will be moved to the oil filter where it can then be taken out of the engine. On racing and high performance engines, painting the inside of the block is a part of "blueprinting" the engine.

I have been told that a good enamel high-temp paint is used for this... but I do not know for sure. I have also been told that the paint is baked on somehow.
