I will very soon be buying an Allis Chalmers WD. What should I do to the tractor before I use it much? What kind of engine oil should I use for it? What kind of transmition oil do I use? Does the transmition oil take care of the PTO? How much oil does the engine take? Transmition? I really appreciate any help.

Hello Martin. I would change all fluids.Don't forget the final drives. My book says use sae 40 above 90 degrees. Above 32 use sae 20. above 10 degrees use sae 20 w. Below 10 degrees use 10w. That is for the motor. I use 10w30 in mine all time in missouri no problem. It holds 6 quarts. Transmission holds 17 quarts. 18 quarts with pto. Use sae 80ep all year. The final drives hold one and three quarters quart each. use sae 80ep all time. Clean out breather cap, clean air cleaner bowl and fill to mark with same oil as in motor. Hydraulic uses sae 20w. There are three drain plugs one on bottom of transmission, bottom of differential and bottom of clutch housing. Drain all three or you will have dirty oil left in side. Good luck. Archie

Be sure to use non-detergent 20 wt. oil in the hydraulics or if you can't find that, most people nowadays use a good hydraulic oil.

All that and much more is in the OPERATOR (Owner) manual. Good investment to learn about your purchase.

Your local AGCO dealer can supply you with NEW factory original manuals for your WD.

I just checked 'Allis Manual' on eBay. It looks like they are going for $8.99 + shipping. I would also take a look at Amazon.com.
