Has anyone installed schedule 40 PVC with a tractor and subsoiler? Do you weld a pipe to the plow, to feed the pipe through? I have heard about it, but never been there. Thanks alvin n ms

Alvin,

A friend and I have laid pvc pipe several times using a subsoiler. First plow your route several times. Then tie a wire to the bottom of your subsoiler. Glue your pipe together and let it set about 5 minutes or so. Tie the big end of the pipe to the subsoiler foot and stuff a rag into the open end to keep dirt out. He did weld a nut or cut a small hole at the bottom of the foot to keep the wire from riding up as the pipe is pulled. Start your tractor moving and let the plow down and the pipe will feed itself. About all the digging you will have to do will be at each end to attach to water source and to attach to outlet. You will be able to pull several sticks without any problem. We put water to my barn and we may have pulled 120 to 130 feet. We also pulled to his barn which was about 350 to 400 feet from his source. I don't recall having a problem but we did do two pulls of about half way and then did a splice in the middle. I don't think you will have any problems unless your real close to several buildings or other obstacles. In North Mississippi you only need to be 10 to 12 inches deep and depending on your plow you should be able to get that deep or deeper. If your in a colder climate you may have problems getting deep enough with just a plow.
Good luck.

Alvin used a subsoiler to lay down the coil type black plastic pipe once, but would think that the schedule 40 would be too rigid to apply in this manner. Let us know if it works out for you. Tom
