A tractor whose parent company has passed away and hasn't been adopted by some other company. No one supports them, not even the federal government. Orphans usually live in out of the way fields or at the back of salvage yards and tractor lots. They often turn out to be 'diamonds in the rough' and make anyone who puts much effort into them very proud. Jim

Is the company that built the tractor still in business and supplying parts? Deere comes to mind as one that IS still in business. Others have changed names, sold out, been taken over, or bastardized in some way.

My guess would be anything that is not covered under the other forums.

I think IMHO's answer has some things about it that are correct, however I'd say the orphan tractors are more defined by being manufactured by smaller, lesser-known companies and in lower production numbers compared to say Case, MH, Oliver, Deere, etc. It would include tractors like Silver King, Avery, Leader, Intercontinental, Earthmaster, etc.

Tractor whose mfg is no longer in business and/or no longer has parts support from parent company or company who absorbed it.
