Isn't this something like having an ugly girlfriend? Still fun to play with, but you don't want your friends to see you with her.

I gotta go with some are pretty, some are not, but they're still tractors and I like tractors.

I like most old iron but today I looked at a Huber Maintainer that was pretty ugly. Had a lot of "baling wire" engineering or at least I think it did.

Now some of those other Hubers kinda favor old olivers or the other way around :)

Not to keen on single front wheel rigs, just a personal quirk.

Let's see. There was a JD B with an AC wide front on this site a while back. Also on this site was a series on tractors that were cobbled with various accessories. (Tractors owners who thought they were engineers). Lastly, some of the aftermarket wide fronts that really change the appearance of the tractor and make them ugly.

They aren't the best looking things in the world. I've got two of them, one that runs and one that's used for parts. I wish I could find some more parts though, I need a fuel pump and a radiator!

I buy a lot of salvage tractors and I have some of
the worst looking tractors you can imagine. DC
Case with a 55 Massey Wheatland front end. 44
Massey with a 6 cyld Chevy chained and boomed to
the frame. W9 IHC with fenders from a G VI
Minneapolis Moline and a Buda radiator. My
personal favorite (which I didn't buy but should
have). G 706 Minneapolis Moline with 3 pt. This
turned out to be a G 705 with a 2 pt. hitch from a
IHC 706 cobbled on. The adjustable front end was
off the IHC 706, someone had tried to make it into
a row crop tractor. They did put the IH 706
emblems on the side panels. It had a 6 foot "rain
water down spout with 90 degree elbow" for an
exhaust.

My wifes grandfather is like this.
When ever some thing breaks he fixes it with what ever happens to be laying near by.
He has alot of steel fence post welded to things.

We are going back down there this Christmas. Maybe I will take my digital camara out and see what he has.
He has a few out buildings that are made out of every thing except wood.

My Dad put a wide front end under a SC or DC case and it went from streamlined looking to ugly in half a day. I'm not up to speed on Case tractors but I think it was a DC case.

I really don't think there is such a thing, it's kind of like some girls get more dates than others. I Kind of like going steady, some like to look at em sober, some not. Even read an article about some ole boy who got married and later had it annulled. Seems he had the wrong prescription for his glasses, or at least that's what he told the judge, said he finally got a good look at her. Me, I think his buddies gave him a hard time. I don't wear glasses and hope I never have too. I have a TO20, she's not the best date for some, but she makes me happy. The other ole boy she dated before me painted her up to look like a Ford, red and gray. Personally, I don't like all that lingrie and stuff and told her I fix her up the way she use to look when she was young. Reckon she liked that cause she came home with me. I didn't let that stop me from seeing her for what she really was. I guess everyone here has a date or committment with someone they really care about in some form or another. As for me and Fergie, we'll be just fine.

The ugliest tractor is the one that was abused or left outside and forgotten about. They all look good when they are painted and taken care of.

Yea sure - fun. Here comes an un-needed color war.... :(

The oddest looking thing to me has been the wide front end on the ~50's Olivers. There is just something odd & ungraceful & peculiar about the geometry on them. With the tie rods up on top - just look goofy _to me_.

This is just my opinion, and I happen to like Oliver tractors, I own one (narrow front... ;) and come from a family of Oliver owners - both on my dad's side & my mom's side, couple of uncles & first cousins own more than 20 a piece.

So no hate mail to me. Please direct your hate mail to the idiot that started this thread - it's his fault.

THATS A FAIR QUESTION, I THINK THE SOME OF THE NICER LOOKING TRACTORS 770 OLIVER,70 JD DIESEL,
5 STAR MINNY,M FARMALL,8N FORD,300 INTERNATIONAL UTILITY, I HAVE DRIVEN ABOUT ALL THE OLD TRACTORS, BUT ONE I DIDNT DRIVE WAS AN SC CASE MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE BEST TRACTOR AROUND BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS A HOMLY TRACTOR WITH FRONT WHEELS STUCK OUT IN FRONT AND LONG STEERING ROD DOWN THE SIDE. BUT CASE BUILT SOME GOOD LOOKING TRACTORS ALSO, NOT TO AFFEND ANYONE JUST MY THOUGHT

I got here late for the argument, but I think I'm going to go with you on the Case SC. I drove my dad's for years, learned how to turn left at the end of the field. Grandpa used to do right turns and hung the steering rod on a fence post now and then. I remember him hanging on it and beating it with a sledge hammer to get it straight, kind of. Now our neighbor had an Allis Chalmers that had a big coil spring slung underneath it that we all called "The Bull", might have been uglier than that Case.
