Today while at the local welding shop getting some TIG work done we got talking about old iron. One of the fellas mentioned he knew of an old tractor sitting that had steel wheels on all fours. Peaked my curiosity so going out to look at it this coming weekend.

Wondering if anyone might have an idea of common steel wheeled tractors in the South East? I will post results of the expedition.
Thx

The rig sitting out there is a Huber. Model is a "Maintainer"? It has round "cleated" rears and fronts are missing. Big heavy cast iron rig, has a flat head six, stand up operators station, no water in the oil, fuel has long since jelled into something like moleasses. Will try to get some pics after the holidays.

Here is a similar pic of the Maintainer. As mentioned the one here has cleated rears (dozer cleats looks like) and no fronts. Appears to be complete, lots of hyd. lines cut and no front blade that I seen.

My neighbor has a rusted Oliver in his back yard with steel wheels in the rear and rubber in the front.

Hey Bill -
Where 'bouts in FL? I am located in N. Central FL just west of Jax and east of Lake City. Sanderson.
Not that I really need another project and wife can't stand the old iron I seem to dredge up but an old Oliver might be kinda nice :)
Thx

ShepFL,
Can't answer your question except that if they were 'common' before the thirties, they would all have had steels all round! When did pneumatics become 'common' in the States? I don't think there were many in the UK on rubbers before WWII. Some came over, beating the U-boat attempt at sinking everything, from the early war years, but probably a lot were converted, one way or another, when the rubber shortage eased after the war.
Regards,RAB

I think there were some McCormick's used in the SE. My 10-20 came from that area. Smaller then then steel used in the Western Wheat areas.
