I have a IH 1066 and the glass on the tachometer is dull and you can't see through it very good, can't read the hours. I took it off and cleaned it with a lot of different detergents and cannot get it clean enough to see through. The tach works good but what can I use to clean it? Thanks

Try buffing it with Brass-O polishing compound, have even polished plastic jeep windows with it. Says right on the can also good for polishing watch crystals, works good too. John in Nebr.

You might also try putting the lens in water and then dropping in a denture cleaning tablet as per instructions. I've heard that they will work for cleaning old jars and bottles, but have never bought any to try the process.

If you can test an small area with CLR or WORKS. I've tried vinegar with little success. On some of the old bottles I find I mix a 50/50 batch of Calcium, Lime, Rust (CLR) or WORKS. Cleans the glass pretty well. You can get this stuff at the dollar store, just be cautious as it can burn sensitive skins (my son knows) and be sure to rinse it well as it is mildly corrosive (beauty ring) on the gauge.

If veniger doesn't work use a soft polishing compound, then buff it afterwards with elbow grease and cloth.

If it is glass , try soaking it in vinegar. Might work.
