My favorite is when someone compares the tractor you are selling to something twice or half it's price.

I have a nice ford for sale right now, $3000 no dicker. I will keep it if I cant get it. Anyhow, these folks start telling me about an AC WD for $1800 - of course it has rotted rims, no rubber, and bad tin (they tell me all this) - yet they think mine is over priced...

Or when I was selling a $6000 MF Diesel in nice nice shape people come comparing it to a new one...$15,000+ !!!

Really strange how folks do that! I guess the other thing that irks me is when people come to look at a Ford N and then complain that Ns dont have live PTO - why did they come to look? Sheesh. I tell 'em to take a hike. I always get my price, with someone who actually appreciates the machine.

A few years back, my wife got a new car and I decided to keep the one she'd been driving and sell mine. It was a 9-year-old 4-cylinder Chevy Celebrity with about 160,000 miles on it. I put an ad in the paper asking $400.

A guy showed up to look at it. He walked around it and looked in it for about 10 minutes without saying a word. He then asked what was wrong with it. I told him that to the best of my knowledge, there was nothing really wrong with it. He wanted to drive it, so I climbed in with him and we went for a short drive. When we returned, he said "Well, it looks decent, and it drives better than it looks. Do you think it's safe?"

I pondered his question for a moment, and said "Well it's probably as safe as any car that old of that mileage!"

He replied, "Well I just got divorced yesterday, and part of the settlment was that I have to buy my ex-wife a safe, dependable car. I hope she likes it!" He gave me cash, and I never saw it or him again.

We are selling our farm way out in country. A guy asked us if there were flies out here! A woman asked us if there were copperheads under the house. Oh, sure, I wouldn't live in a house without them!

I probably should't admit this but' A long time back I got the hit& miss engine bug. Well there in the paper came a ad selling a couple of galloways.Well a lady answered, and I quizzed her . What shape are they in I asked, ( fine she said). How much do they weigh and whats the horsepower? This is where I lost her- Turns out It was Galloway cows that she was selling. And im not telling the whole story

My brother-in-law,once called to inquire about a car that was for sale. The seller told him the car needed a new windshield, one new front tire, and a few other things. Finally, the seller said, "If it were any good, I wouldn't be selling it!.

Yuppies are the worst I've seen. One wanted me to
prove a tractor was mine,Why are you selling,
Has anyone else looked at it,and why didn't
they buy.How long have you had it,one wanted me
to haul a 430 to a JD dealer so they could
check it out for him.I once got a five page
contract from a lawyer for a $2000 tractor a
yuppie bought.Last summer one turned down a nice
tractor because it didn't have an original top
link, said he wanted to buy one with a top link.

I don't have a funny question from selling machinery right on the tip of my tongue, but a few years back when we converted from coal heat to propane, I advertised a few tons of stoker coal for sale. I swear TWO different people asked me how old it was!!! Near as I could tell about fifty million years but they didn't seem interested after I couldn't date it for them. Bob

Ive had a few strange questions sked before on some deals. Ive had folks ask me why I was selling things like tractor parts guessing they were bad. WHen i told them I havent got a use for them if it was an extra tool. One winter I was out of work so I built a few 2 wheel trailer and this fella came and asked me why i was selling the litle trailers. I pointed and told him THat I hauled everything on a gooseneck or my backhoe trailer now. Ive even ought machinery/implements and the folks ask me what I want it for then they tell me theyed sell it if I wont resell it or use it for profit. Ive had people uy things Ie built for secial aplications around the place like my roatry trancher and they ask why i built it then sell it. Alot of times its easier for me to make it to suit my needs then when I m done or want to improve the design Ill sell the old one. Some of the weirder questions came form when we bred Collies and white German Shepards. Theyed ask the price then ask what we got for them without papers. This lady bought a collie pup with intenions on making a house dog out of it and asked how to know when it needed to go to out to use the bathroom. That was kinda hard to tell her with out gettin tickled.

Silliest thing is demanding to hear it run before looking it over. When I worked for a Ford dealer the salesman would get irritated to have to start a tractor on a cold day. All our tractors were guaranteed to give satisfactory service and would run perfectly. Another thing is to ask the price as the first question.

Price is my first question. I'll have looked it over in the lot myself already, what other questions are there?

1. What's the price?

2. Any warrenty with that price?

3. Will you take (less, or a trade & money...)?

That's all the questions I can think of? :)
