Does any one out there have an opinion on the King-Kutter tillers. I have a 3600 Ford and I need to purchase a tiller. Will my tractor run a 72" tiller? The tractor is a diesel and I beleive they are rated at 40 H.P. at the PTO. I've looked at all brand of tillers and most just tell me horror stories about the quality of King-Kutter. Also, does gear drive have any advantages over chain drive tillers? The King-Kutters are priced much under the Howard, New Holland, And woods tillers...any input is greatly appreciated.

I've had one for a couple of years. no problems so far. after tilling up the areas i want to garden the first time, it is never hard ground again and easy on the equipment. for hard ground you should break it up first anyway, either by plow, chisel, or to get by cheap, a sub-soiler from king cutter.

I have an opinion alright. It's not a very good one though. I've got one laying behind the barn, in pieces. You might be alright, if you're just doing a small garden, but leave it alone, if you're planning on doing much work with it. I broke dozens of tines, and then melted the gearbox, in less than 10 acres. (Granted it was hard clay ground) I have a Howard Rotovator now. It took the same piece of ground, in stride, and has done HUNDREDS of acres since. My dad had one for 30+ years. When he sold it, it was still in fine shape. I guess this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. Cheap gets you cheap. JMHO, John

My evperience is the same as Indy's. Get a good one the first time, and the best for my $$ is Howard!!!

40hp will run a 72" most of the time, but to get the most out of a field tiller, you'll need a bit more hp. I like chain drive better.

You will be sorry, if you try to save $$ on a field tiller!!

Robert
