I'm going to replace the rear rims on a John Deere 4010D. It currently has 15.5x38 rubber on 14 inch wide rims. My question(s) is it feasable to resize the rims to 16 inch wide to accomodate 18.4x38 rubber or is this to much tire for the 4010D? Also,if the rear tire size increases should the front rubber size be increased and if so what would the recomended size(s) be?
Thanks for your help.

When you go bigger you will have less of a chance of loosing traction, which is good! I have seen lots of 4010, 4000, and 4020s that have had 18.4-38 put on them. I haven't heard many people complaining after the change. On the front of most 4010 and 4020s are 11L-15. I don't know of anyone who switched to 16, mostly because the 16 will be a lot taller than the 15, and it looks better to be slightly lower in the fron that to be lower in the rear ( basicly how the tractor looks sitting on a level surface). But that is your prefrence, and you may want to change them too.

I have switched my 4020 to 16" rims. I had a flat one day and was in a hurry so I pulled a tire and wheel of off a Junker 6600 combine and put on the 4020. Couldn"t tell much difference and when I got time I switched the other. Cheaper than buying new tires.
