Followup question on dead jd1530 clutch.

Thanks for your replies on my problem previously.

The obvious next question is:

How much should I pay for a clutch job? The local JD dealer is a sleazeball and I'd like to take it to a local Case or Ford dealer with a better rep. I would like to request a fixed price though because in the winter they've got lots of free time to run up my bills.

If it costs too much, I'll just stick it in the barn and use my other machines till the day I get the money or get ambitious.

Would I be foolish to try it myself? I have no experience with clutches. I'm good with them so I tend not to burn them up.

Sorry for the questions but I need your wisdom.

Thanks

i don't think fixed price is the most practical way. since the need for parts is unknown until things are disassembled. a fixed price will probably include the maxinum of parts required while these clutches are repairable and most parts can be individually aquired.
a fixed price on labor is easier to set.

George,
No rocket sience there. Put it in the barn, get the book and do it yourself. You can do it. Maybe find a freind that has prior experence can help you. For $52+ a hour at the dealerships, you'll be money ahead to work on it yourself. Van
