As I understand it White numbered their tractors by the horsepower. First number was the number of drive wheels--2 = 2 wheel drive 4 = 4 wheel drive-- the second number is the horsepower. So 2-85 is 2 wheel drive 85 horse tractor. There was a 2-70, 2-65 etc. If it had front wheel assist it didn't show in the numbers.

I have a white 2-85 which we have used on the farm for many years. Has a perkins engine which is a very good winter time starter if that matters. It is between 80-85 hp
