We have just purchased an 826 International. It was turbo charged at 1000 hours and we were told it was a Gold Demo. What it is a Gold Demo? How rare are they and what is the difference between a Gold Demo and a regular 826. This tractor has 6000+ hours and nothing has been done on the motor. How long should the motor last? It seems like it has plenty of power but seems hard to start wihout a bump of ether. Any info would be helpful. Thanks

IH had a Gold Demo program in the late 60's there had painted the hoods gold some of the 56's as well has the 26's they were to be repainted after the program ended but some were not no differents in the tractors. I think the piston in the 826 were changed some to make them start better. don't know how many were painted gold.

I guess the question is, what did they use the tractor for? If they have been pulling it hard with the turbo it might be getting real close to needing a overhaul. The block is the same on the turbo and none turbo tractors but the crank and pistons where heavier in the turbo charged units. I am sure they did not tear the engine down at a 1000 hours and rebuild it before adding the turbo. If they haven't worked it hard to might go all the way to 10,000 hours before needing to be O/Hed. A lot also depends on maintenance and regular oil changes.
