Bleeding hydraulic system

I just bought an 801 Ford and am having lift problems. The previous owner said it worked fine until he changed hydraulic fluid. Now it has to be bled every time. What is the proper way to bleed the system, could the wrong hydraulic oil cause this, and what else should I look at?

Thanks,
Randy

the hydraulic pump is located on the right side of the engine. on the top of the pump there is a pipe plug.it is at the front of the pump.loosen the plug to where it is almost out.start the engine and wait till oil comes out around the threads.then tighten the plug.it should only need to be bled once.it it needs it frequently then you most likely have a resriction in the suction pipe.worked on on once that had silicone in the pipe.what kind of oil is in it?

I don't know if it is the ford recommended oil or not. It does have a milky brown color when I bleed it. Should I put the lift control up when I bleed it, or leave it down and let it idle?

Leave the lift control lever in the down position while you bleed the system. You want the LEAST restriction to fluid flow possible. When you aresatisfied that fluid has begun to flow through the system, then, you should begin to check the rest of the system by moving the controllever. Good luck.
