Hi guys, I used to work on tractors for a private guy on his farm for 10 years. I quit there and moved on to Cat heavy equipment. My neighbor has a 66 series IH and the clutch went out of it so he asked me to put a new one in for him. I installed it for him. I have never really did any side work before and was wondering how much to charge him for labor? (He paid for the parts) I had about 7 hours labor in it. What do any of you guys charge per hour? Thanks for any replies.

I sorta go along with RJ-AZ here. I ran my own shop reconditioning cars for 20 years. Was a sideline thing but consumed about 40 hours a week and I stayed busy. Basically charged 1/2 the going rate at the big shops but had a price list for the more exacting jobs like the clutch job.At the top of my price sheet was. OIL CHANGE - $50.00 which cut down on customer saying to change the oil while you are at it as they walk out the door. Of course there is always the family, friends, young folks, prefered customers and the like that you have to give special considerations for and only you can decide how to do that.

I charge any where from $22.50 to $62.00 per hour depending on the nuisance factor ie. the customers attitude. I guess I average out around $32.00 or half of the local dealer. I have one guy I do work for or talk him through a job he is doing while I am working another job of my own in his nice new shop.
