Thanks for all the info.I am leaning toward the farmall but only because i Grew up on them.Iwill not be going side ways on the hills and will only get a wide front end.

the 2 you are asking about are rated about the same HP it depends on what you plan on useing it for fords sit lower so more sure footed on hill sides but the farmal will out pull the ford but sit up higher so on hills less sure footed and the next thing are both wide front ends you want wide front ends for hills but trickes are fine for flat only I have fords farmals olives ACs MMs and all of them can be good or bid depending on what you plan to do also farmals can be easyer to work on depending on what you have to do to them

I have been on hills with both Fords and Farmalls, I still prefer the Farmall, they will keep going long after the Ford has lost traction, due to the Ford being lighter in weight. Yes, you can add weight to the Ford, but you can add just as much weight to the Farmall, and it will outperform the Ford.

Farmalls are fine for field work, but on the hills or skidding firewood here in the mountains of Pa, I'd take the Ford.

When you say "hills of Montana" I think Ford.

The 350 is a tall tractor for hill climbin.

Now I have never sat on either but have used other Fords and I would say go for the 861.

Just my $0.02

Go with the Farmall, Fords are nice, and they are built very rugged, but the Farmall will just plain outperform the Ford at any task, and will be much nicer to ride.

I have had Farmalls & Fords over the years and Farmalls are built like an anvil but for many jobs the Fords are more user friendly. For hillside work I would use the Ford.

Clean the out the disk brake housing and the brake surfaces and they work very well. The brakes don't work well with oil and grease either..

You did something wrong if brakes didn't last very long, clean ramps, balls, springs, reset rod assembly and with new disc they will last years.
