I am considering buying an aftermarket 3pt backhoe attachment for my tractor. I'm looking for one with a built in pump and a 9 foot boom. What should I look for and stay away from? Thanks for your help.

I have a Great Bend model 751 on a 4500 John Deere. It had a pto pump that didn't do the job. So the dealer put the "power beyond" option in for me. ( rear hydraulic outlet) Works great now. Has an 18" bucket. The bucket had a weak point where the gussets are welded on. Cracked at that point . I caught it in time and welded it myself. It was out of warranty. Grease it often. The zerks plug real easy too.I am selling the Deere and thinking about a Kubota with their own backhoe. Heavier frame mount etc.

I've got a Woods backhoe, the largest they made about 4 years ago. 3-pt. with self-contained hydraulics. Works OK. I don't use it much, but it's fun to dig with! A pain to mount by yourself...it takes at least 20 minutes by yourself, unless you luck out and line up the pin holes by chance. I save up jobs around my acreage until I mount the hoe, then I go to work. It may not compete with factory made tractor/backhoe arrangement, but that's OK for me. I can do small medium projects at my own pace. I use it on an AC 175 diesel (about 62 hp tractor with cat II 3-pt).

What tractor is this going on? Will you need a subframe, or is this a good strong cat 2 tractor? backhoes can be really hard on the upper link if your tractor is too small, wish we knew what you had...

Most recommendations might be geared toward what type of tractor we are talking about. You may want to give us more information like style, fuel, 3 point, hp etc for a start.

I'm am considering putting it on a MM Jet 3 gas with a loader on the front...gas job that is about 44 hp. I also have a John Deere 2755 4wd that I may use it on occasionally which is about 75 hp. I want to use it for digging up rocks out of pastures and some excavation for footings, corners for high tension fences and othe such things. I'm considering selling my beloved Oliver 550 for it. Thanks, Ike

NNNNN NOOOOO OOOOO OOOOO O!!!!! !!!!! !

Not the 550!!!

A Jet 3 is about the same size as a 550 isn't it?

I would put the backhoe on the 550 and not over weight the Jet.

But then again I like Olivers over MMs so I'm biased.

The Jet is actually bigger physically but in some ways the 550 is a nicer tractor. I worry that I would overload it with a 9 ft hoe. The MM has a cat 2 links compared to cat 1 on the Oliver. The local dealer is trying to sell me a Bush Hog brand but I don't want to limit my choices to that. I was thinking of putting a 48 or 49? John Deere hoe on the 2755 but it is not recommended with the soundguard cab. Thanks, Ike
