Are the Ford 5000s regarded as a classic tractor in the United States. Very well thought of over here in the UK but many have been exported to asian and african countries does this happen in the United States or do your farmers keep hold of them.

Is the Fordson Super Major 5000 the English equivalent of the Ford 5000?

No the Ford 5000 was built from 1965 to 1975 .The fordson super major 5000 was built from 1961 to 1964. The super major is a very good tractor i had one did about 11000 hours but i still prefer the Ford 5000 better brakes steering independant pto and a lot more power and traction.

Good ones still fetch a nice price here. They are one of Ford's more successful tractor models. A friend of mine bought one new in 1973. He was just getting started farming. As soon as he got it, he rented more ground and found the 5000 to be a bit smaller than he needed. He is one of these guys that can do wonders with a wrench. He put a turbocharger on the 5000, and jacked the HP up to near 100. He ran it that way for several years. He has since "de-tuned" it back to it's original state. I saw him raking hay with it yesterday. Good old tractor. If it's not a "classic" yet, it will be someday soon. John
