I'm going to look at a 1086 in a few days. The owner is a widow and doesn't know much about the tractor. She says the TA is out and had been out for several years. I assume this means the low side is gone and its being run in the high side.I won't need the TA for what i'll be using it for, can it be ran ok in the high side or could this lead to other problems? What might it cost ot repair the TA?

Pretty common deal, you can find a lot of knowledgeble people to do this repair, cheaper than a dealer. You won't hurt anything much continuing to use it in high. As stated, parts are about $500. People usually assume they are busted when buying these tractors, very common for the low side to go away, but fairly inesxpensive to get running right again.

Yea, there is an eliminator, just replaces the whole assembly with a shaft, but that is basically the same labor, might as well make it work right again - you won't know how you got along without those extra gears! :)

we run a `1086 for years with the low side out, wont hurt anything, you may have to unhook the dump valve on the multi control body to keep it from lunghing when you go to take off, a new ta thru heartland is around 500 bucks the expensive part is labor

There is a TA eliminator that can be installed. I did one about 18 years ago when I was working in a tractor shop. All I know is the customer wanted the job done and the parts dept got the parts in for it. It still involved splitting the tractor. Still it can be ran as it is though.
