Yes it is, typos and little used words I can understand but seems 2/3rds of the people here spell baler: bailer, a device to remove water from a boat. (pet peeve (sp?))
The only ones that really bug me are those that do not even try, and my chances of replying are nil then.

And Minneapolis Moline spelled it "Uni-balor"- never could understand that.

Yes spelling is important. No it isn't the "above all, and end all". I have 18 years of schooling, two degree's from a well respected university, and still overlook/don't always care/make mistakes with my spelling. Maybe that upsets some folks. Maybe the bulk of people don't really care. One way or another, I try to get my meaning across. I have seen many post's that have EVERY word spelled correctly, all the proper punctuation, and very nice form to their writing, yet are so in-accurate with the information, that you wonder what world they're from. What REALLY matters? Since so many seem to be greiviously offended by a few mis-spelled words, I'll try to spend more time with my spelling. Thnaks, John

Fascinating. Never thought of it before. Had *no* trouble reading your message though, almos as rapidly as if it were written correctly. Not sure what that says about me, and not sure I want to know! :-)

It might be decipherable, but would you want to go into hospital and have, say, a leg amputated, only to find they took off the wrong one due to a spelling mistake and now are going to remove the other?
As the other posts say, it may not be someone's fault that spelling is not their strong point, but there is little excuse for most errors on computer posts with spellchecks readily available.
Grammar is also important - double negatives for instance. You should only expect the correct answer to the question asked, not expect the reader to translate the question first!
Regards, RAB

I ended up with 17 years. Lack of good sense (or is that scents, or cents), I guess. I definitely learn from those who have 12 or less. Uneducated (or less educated) is not the same as stupid. Now I am reminded of a poster I once saw which said "Ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever."

Most of us have attended school for at least 12 years, shouldn't we have something to show for it? Im certainly glad that medical journals, military journals, and specification books, as in tractor manuals, are written clearly and precisely. True, the general meaning usually comes through, but I tire immediately if the person posting can't be precise with his grammer as he is with his torque wrench or paint gun. My two cents worth, John in Nebraska

i never made it to the 12th grade myself, and have been a self employed farmer and machinery trader since 1983 i have won two atpa points titles in the super stock division , and get ribed because i never graduated , i was in a heated discusion with a parts guy i went to school with (wrong bearings) he told me at least he had a diploma on his wall, i told him i dont have one, and if i did, if it was on the wall beside his , his would make mine look like pigeon poop

Marlow, hope the rocks didn't hurt you none, just wanted some of the guys to try a little bit harder. Sometimes on the technical end, the wrong word or letter can convey a whole wrong meaning. I got thru 12, but it was a struggle. Congratulations on your business, John in Nebr.

Actually, we somewhat read by the shape of the word. And frankly spelling and grammar errors in a post tend to diminish my opinion of the poster greatly. Even if the poster imparts great wisdom, it looks like it is coming from an unreliable source. If there seems to be some real wisdom in it, I usually try to dig it out. If it's too bad, I'll just skip it! Wish there was a spell check available on this board! My poor typing and I'd sure use it!

Ditto what you said. But don't get to depending on spell check. All it knows is words. I never use one.

Ray,

Compose your message in MSWord or a word processing program that has spell check. Copy and paste into "Comments". My two cents worth.

I have a little book Called "20,000 Thousand Words". Not a dictionary, just the correct spelling of 20,000 words. I also read the post over to see if I made my thoughts understandable to others. I guess that's called 'proof reading'.
