I just finished restore my 1948 Ford 8n, and it looks great. I got one strange problem. After I've run the engine for 30 minutes and then stop, when I restart the engine it will miss for 5 - 10 minutes and then run ok. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone have any ideas. Could it
be vapor lock? Thanks

Bruce, when this happens to me, I clean everything firstr, then replace dist cap, rotor, points, condensor, plug wires, coil wires, coil, spark plugs, then set all to specs, set timing, check advance. Be sure to lubricate the advance mechanism inside the distributor. Always works. Never know what was wrong and don't really care. Sometimes trying to save a nickel or new part is just not worth it. Your old tractor probably needs all those parts anyway. good luck.

I may have been wrong in my description of my problem. It's more like sputtering or starving for fuel when I restart the engine. All of the igition components have been replaced. I wonder with the fuel line so close to the exhaust manifold if it could be heating the fuel in the line causing vapor lock. I'm going to try to insulate the fuel line and see what happens. Thanks for all the great info.

Determine which cylinder is giving symptoms?
Lok at plugs to see if one is missing. Move it to another cylinder to see if miss follows plug or just change plug(s).
Check to see if there are any manifold leaks, valve clearances OK. Maybe just need a hotter grade of plug.
Need new dist cap?
Could be any and others. Hope you sort it.
Let us know when you do.

Bruce, The first thing I would look at is the spark plug wires. DO NOT USE ROPE OR GRAPHITE WIRES. The ignition systems on these older tractors require copper core wires. If you used new wires from your local tractor dealer, look at them close, many OEM wires are rope centered. Hope this helps.

I would check and make sure the points are clean and that all other ignition parts are clean and/or meet specification.
