Just bought a 3 point middle buster and hope to use it for digging a trench. Has anyone out there modified this type of implement for digging trenches? Would like to dig 24- 30”

I tried the same thing with a combo plow I bought from Northern Tools. It was a middle buster plow or a ripper, depending on which of the two tools you connected to the 3 pt hitch. Plow works great.

I found that the ripper would indeed dig a shallow trench that I could bury PVC into, but it wouldn't expel the dirt from the trench. So, you have to follow up the tractor work with manual labor. Not acceptable to me. I have opted ever since to rent a real trencher and do it right.

Also, the trench was barely enough to bury the pvc. This means after a few years, some of the pvc is no longer buried. If not put under enough soil, the cycles of wet and dry will allow pvc with air inside to rise up to the surface.

Never tried trenching with one like that, but it is going to take a tremendous amount of horsepower to pull that wide a plow that deep, you might make several passes and take out a little at a time. You probably will bend the shank trying to go that deep. JMHO Gene Davis
