Steve,

I have been searching for about 15 years for the 1950 John Deere "A" that my father once owned. I have a serial #, 656453, and lots of identifying features. I have advertised locally in the Michigan area where the tractor was last known to be. I have advertised in Green Magazine, Two-Cylinder, and on many internet sites. My son wrote an article about my search that was published in the August 2000 issue of Green Magazine. You will have to be patient; I am optimistic that one day I will find the "A". Good luck to you in your search!

I'd start by talking to anyone who might know who they were sold to and where the buyers lived. Then follow up on any information from there. Keep asking around, someone will know. Also keep in mind that they may have been sold several times. Ask family members if there were any distinct markings/ modifications on these tractors that would let you make a positive ID. Post adds on this site and ATIS describing the tractors you are looking for. Include about when they were sold and where they might be, and any id markings. Attend shows in the areas that you are looking and talk to fellow collectors at those shows. Last but not least, don't give up. I spent over 3 years hunting down my grandpa's F20. I didn't have a serial number, but I knew all the little details and bruises so that when I finally found it, ID'ing it was easy. The 20 had been sold at least 3 times and was over 100 miles away when I found it. Good luck in your search.

Some auctioneers keep records of who buys what, IF the tractors even sold at auction.

Depending upon when the tractors sold, some people in the area of where they were sold may remember who bought them. Ask around, but like Bman said, without serial numbers you can probably never know if the tractors were really family ones.

Last known location and serial number are needed for a start.
