I have a 1952 D8 2U Bulldozer, quite late model (?22788) with a 2 Cyl petrol starter motor which has a hole in the liner of one cylinder.

I think it is a caterpillar and am trying to find out the model or details of the pony motor to try and get some parts.

I have a (copied) workshop manual, but there is no mention at all of the pony motor. I see some manuals advertised which "includes pony motor"

Can anyone tell me any details of the pony motors fitted??

Thanks, Tom Rae

I have friend that has a pony motor out a D8H that he will sell. It ran when he took it off and went with a starter.

Hi, Tom. To the best of my knowledge, which is NOT encyclopaedic, there was only ever ONE pony motor fitted to Cat Diesels --- Cat. If the manual you have has no mention of a pony motor, you need one that does have the pony motor. E-bay, ACMOC (See link below.) or your friendly local Cat. dealer.

I think direct electric start was an option way back then but they were like hen's teeth and rocking horse manure. EVERYBODY bought the pony motor start machines.

Hope this helps.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
