I find myself taking a moment or two to decide which hat to wear in the morning. I just can't get rid of them cause each has a memory, or so it seems. John Deere hat that survived a brush hogging
My hat with the farm name on it
Straw cowboy hat that my brother gave me
Agco hat that a dealer took in trade for a John Deere hat. (had a file cabinet drawer full of trade ins)
Kent Feed hat I got from a friend at the feed store.
Bass Pro hat I need for hunting.
When I die, Half the hats in the county will be thrown out by my wife.

Never counted but probably have 100 or more in an old wardrobe cabinet farm stuff like tractors, seed corn, tobacco floor, feed, ect. Some service stations or repair shops, NASCAR, ballteams, sayings about Jesus and everything in between. even one that advertises a funeral parlor! Right now i pretty much switch between 2 a P.P.G auto finish and a "mister Twister" fishing lures my problem is the ones that have that foam lining. it breaks down and falls out making the cap lose its shape before i get to wear it, makes a terrible mess. Have plenty of the freebies...but my problem with them is...I wear a 7 1/4- 7 3/8 and seems like all the "one size fits all" hats that I get have to be fastened in the last couple of snaps and when you pull it on tight in the wind...it pops them loose...or worse...they pull out and ruin. Does anyone make hats for the bigger heads? L8R....Fred OH

Lots of hats! BUT.... There are only two that get worn. 1. John Deere 2. Austrailian "bush' hat. (Keeps the sun off of my already red neck.)

There's another way to look at that besides my "Lonestar Feed" hat (in many incarnations!)

There's the welders hat, machinist, mechanic, plumber, carpenter, well digger...ad nauseum...ad infinitum

Seed companies haven't hardly given out hats here in the last few years. Right now I have a Pioneer hat, a Select Sires hat, a Holland Genetics hat with a nice picture of Southland Marker that's getting pretty ratty, and a Montgomery Excavating hat.

My wife just rolls her eyes when I bring home another seed cap or two(or three). And I agree. They don't hold there shape after washing anymore. I threw one away after three washings. We used to get by all summer with three work hats. Really like that Ford cap, by the way.

In all seriousness find a pot or plastic food container that has fairly straight sides that your hat will just fit over the bottom then wash your hat and slip it over the container while it is still wet and let it air dry

I used to have a collection like that. Still have a laundry basket full of winter ones. Mostly Bluegrass Stockyards, get one when I give them money or they give me money. Summer hats I started doing something 3 yrs ago I swore I would never do, I bought a cap, actually a whole box of them. Love the John Deere all mesh for summer. Buy a box every spring, after about 10 washings they still reek.

My landlord said once that if you was gonna be a cowman, you'd ought'a look like a cowman. So there are two felt hats and on straw haning on pegs in the kitchen. My good summer straw is in the bedroom with my silver belly stetson. One gripe. Just when you get $100 saved up for a new stetson, you can't get one for that anymore. But I will not go bareheaded, and I will not be seen in town in a "cap"

Nebraska Cowman, That right! When I was younger I wore a cap all the time, A result of all the baseball I played. Only compounded by all the gim-me caps I collected. Farmed, Teamed roped, Chased girls(caught some too), Went to Church in them also!! Till the top part of my ears started have crusry skin on them. My barber lady told me her husband had gotten skin cancer from just sort of the same situation. The next day I started back on my coboy hats full time. It took 10 months for my ears to heal up. That was in 1999 even to this day there are times when the tops of my ears are quick-tender. After I have been out for sure-enough long extended times. I have a work straw, and a dress straw for summer. In winter two felts with the same purpose, work & dress. Boys, ya'll better consider that there is ONLY so much sunshine your body can take before It rebels on you, Just like a broncy colt! Oh, Yes by the way I do wear long sleeve shirts. All year round....here in Central Texas...on 105 degree days. My thoughts.....
Later,
John A.

John A. ....You might consider the laundry soap as the culprit causing your ear problems. I believe that some soaps cause problems to the top of my ears as well as my shins. It causes a rash with itching. The problem used to be severe, but now seems to be tapering off over a period of years. I think the clothing transfers the chemicals to the skin, causing a reaction. The lower cost soaps cause the least problems.
AND I wash my caps the old way: a small scrub brush and shampoo in the shower.

I've been back to long sleeves for the last 20 years, here in Minnesota in 95 degrees, 95 humidity too....

Let my hair longer in spring to help the ears out a little bit, as I like the baseball type cap....

My only choice is whether to wear the beat up one (for working) or the nice one (to go to town).

Sounds like we have the same dilemma, which hat today?
Ever notice hats keep getting cheaper all the time? They don't hold their form like they once did. Most of them are made overseas. And you don't get a free hat just everyplace either.
