Hello,
It's me, the new guy again. The other day I was working on my distributor for my '52 DC. I made a dumb mistake and took it out without getting the engine in the right position. I'm having a little trouble getting it put in right. I've been told that when the no. 1 piston is at the top, the cap on the end of the dist. shaft should have the rivited end pointing to the no. 1 wire. It's an old delco type with the no. 1 wire marked on the cap. Any help would be wonderfull. Lesson learned, however the consiquences are still there. Thanks!

rw

You have to make sure cylinder #1 is on the compression stroke. To do this remove the spark plug and have someone turn the engine over as you hold your finger over the sprark plug hole. When air rushes out, you know you are on compression.

Next you need to get #1 on top dead center. You can line up the marks on the flywheel or use a piece of wire to feel the piston traveling up and down in the cylinder.

When the piston is at TDC, install the distributor so the rotor points to the #1 terminal on the dist. cap. You'll have to set the timing with a timing light once you have it running again.
