i am thinking about using e-bay to sell a tractor, any advice about this or experience good or bad. how safe is giving your credit card info to these people is the cost worth the effort, any and all info is needed and is apprecieated. thanks.

It can't hurt to try. I don't know what it costs to list a tractor. It cost me about $40 to list a car (about the same as I'd pay the local auto trader rag). You get a nationwide exposure. That can be especially nice if the tractor you're selling doesn't have much local appeal. Some tractors are just not as popular in some parts of the country as other parts.

Just exercise caution with the usual stuff. Make sure the payment is good before you let go of the tractor. Don't let anyone talk you into anything that doesn't feel comfortable. Make it clear in the auction that the buyer is responsible for transportation. Give a deadline for final payment. Be clear in your payment instructions as to what's acceptable and not acceptable.

And above all else, make sure you take some clear pictures of all sides of the tractor. Watch the lighting and don't shoot into the sun...it just makes the details of the tractor impossible to see. Take close-ups of the neet features of your tractor. Include a thorough description of the tractor, its age, serial number, etc....all the things you'd want to know if you were looking to buy one.

Good luck with it!

I bought an ATV, it was kind of hard to send a $3800 certified check to someone in Florida to buy something I had never seen. Worked out great. Sold a truck and had a guy bail on my. No loss, just aggervation. I would both buy and sell again. Credit card # on there doesnt bother me half as much as the teenage thug that runs my card at Walmart and has a copy of the receipt with the number on it. Only ever had a number stolen once and that was at a truck stop. Someone ran up $3000 on my Master Card. Only way they could have gotten it was off the receipt that went in the register. Way out in the middle of nowherein MO. Company was great.

Just curious, What percent is the cost of the auction?
Should I buy stock in Ebay?
Thanks!
Kelvin

I have tried to sell tractors on Ebay and what typically happens is everyone waits until the auction closes and then asked what the real price is.

I did recently sell a dozer after the auction closed, the man paid by money order from two states away and picked up two weeks later. Personally I would not buy something this expensive with seeing in person first.

I don't know about tractors Charles, but I have sold other things from shoes to an old Ford truck, and have had excellent luck with them. I know there are other people who have had bad experiences, but Ebay has both my credit card, and bank account info and I have had no problems. I have them directly pull everything from my checking account, and it is just ducky! Hope this helps.

I've had over 3000 deals on eBay, and all but one was good. I sold 900 antique cameras in one year. Also, toys, tractors, guns (before they took them off), antique clothing and a ton of other things.

I watch the feed back on the people that I deal with and exercise caution when it seems prudent.
For the most part it has been good. I have not been stung but I did have two slow shippers--the worst a guy selling tractor manuals and I had to get a little nasty to get his attention.
I buy most of my tooling on ebay at far less than I would pay at the local industrial supply--and it is the same stuff.
Biggest thing I have bought so far was a Cletrac but I went to look at it before I bought it.

Dave...you're not from PA R U? I have purchased several tractors on eBay and many, many other things. I've had good luck with all of them. G
