With a 70 percent fill of concentrated beet juice in the rear tires, about 68 mph. When sufficent centrifugal force is created, the beet juice forms a shock wave that the tractor rides on...kind of like drafting.

But what happens if you sub the beet juice with, say, tomato juice, or carrot juice? Would it effect the intensity of the shockwave that is formed around the tractor? AND, does this only work on a Ford, or does the theory work for Case, JD, etc?

i gota wonder why you ask this, if you are trying to figure out how long it will take to get from point a to point b then you gota remember that a tractor will not usualy pull full speed up a hill, so if ya have many hills it will be alot of downshifting, and stopping to shift depending on the tranny type. i had once figured out roughly how long it would take to drive a tractor back from a few states away, of course the guys at work lauged at me when i mentioned it, and i never did try it either, but i do road my tractors a decent bit for haying

It all depends on how steep and long the down grade is and the size of the balls (or lack of brains) of the operator.

Under what conditions? If it's air-dropped from a C-17, I would imagine the terminal velocity would probably approach 300 mph, maybe more. Interesting experiment, although I think it would be more reasonable to try it with a Kubota or Yanmar and extrapolate from that.

Terminal velocity on anything is about 120 mph. Ex-paratrooper, don't ask how I know that!

The human in freefall will hit the deck at about 160mph. Not really important, still usually dead. Terminal velocity is simply a case of drag versus weight - when both are equal, acceleration falls to zero. Parachutists know they should only hit the ground at a few mph - just enough to break a few bones if not landing right!
Some aero-foil shaped bombs (called 'Tallboys' maybe?) were designed to fall to faster than the speed of sound (c. 700mph)even as far back as WW2, so they penetrated to foundation level, or below, before destroying the structures by shock wave of underground explosion. Apparently didn't need a direct hit (which was a bit more difficult in those days).

Aerospace engineer myself. Don't know much about paratroops, but terminal velocity is a function of density and drag coefficient. It's the speed at which the drag force on an object is balanced by the weight, leaving no resultant force to accelerate the object. That's why skinny but heavy bombs can penetrate so deeply, they're going hellaciously fast when they impact. The tractor has high drag, but is quite dense. You're probably closer to the Vt than I am for the tractor, but it don't matter, I don't think this is the number the feller is looking for anyway. I also stand by my assertion that it is probably a good idea to try it with a Kubota and a Yanmar. ;o)

You sound like just the person for this question that I have asked a lot of engineers without getting a consistant answer. From what (minimum)altitude would a bowling ball reach terminal velocity?

I'm not going to muddy the water with real facts but all you need to know is the Vt (terminal velocity) and the acceleration of gravity, which is 32feet per second per second, and do the math. (I have no idea what the terminal velocity for a bowling ball is, I think it's about 160 mph for a human body).
