Our county highway department is busy resealing the road by our place, and included with their equipment is an original John Deere 820 in highway yellow paint. In this day of overspending by every agency it's a pleasant surprise to see some common sense when it comes to using our tax dollars. I wonder how many other vintage tractors are still earning their keep by working for the Goverment?

what a shame it is that some unlucky person has to operate a piece of ancient equipment while quite possibly some gov't politician is enjoying spending the money that probably was earmarked for newer more modern machinery to make the job get done easier and faster and safer. that's seems to be the attitude nowadays. make the workers suffer while the mangement reaps the rewards.

Neither has the rate at which the highway gets nothing done. The old deere would be plenty fast.

Speaking of government wasting money, just today I saw the county highway department dumping dirt at a house near me, which isn't a bad thing but the fact that they had a payloader moving the dirt and leveling it off kinda erks me. Trying to think of something to do about it. This is the same dept. that will fix one pot hole then take a 4 hour nap break. Sorry for the off topic post, just had to vent.

Not all that long ago our local school board used a Farmall Cub with a belly mower to cut the grass around the schools. I don't know if they still use it but it was in great shape and should still be running.
