was at a tractor/car show yesterday a gentleman had a case garden tractor with a computer installed he had a remote control to operate the tractor from about 100 feet away he could start it, steer it, raise the front wheels off the ground, and he was working on some relays to shift it so he could mow his lawn from the porch
i guess some day the thrill of operating equiptment will be gone

Marion Davis,(Hagerstown, IN) inventor of the V-plex clutch (sold out to Gates in 60's) and inventor of the cone drive used in early Dixon ZTR mowers had one of his prototype ZTR's equiped with R/C like used on model airplanes and used to set on the deck at his house at the edge of town and mow his yard in the mid/late 60's. His mowers were featured on the cover of a mid 60's Popular Mechanics and if I remember correctly there was a picture of his radio controlled version inside. Sorry, I never pass up a chance to brag about one of my home town heros.

Hello.
My 11 yr old has started his 2005 4-H project.
We have an old Briggs and Stratton engine that he wants to restore. It has a V-plex clutch on it. We have removed the two set screws from the back portion of the cone. We are not sure how the V-plex is attached to the shaft and do not want to dammage the clutch when we remove it.
Can anyone help us with this????
Thanks!!!!

I think now they are experimenting with satellite guided tractors, you won't even need the remote.

Sorry to disappoint you, but over here the N.I.A.E. {National Institute of Agricultural Engineering } was experimenting with remote control tractors in the 1960's. I have a video about tractor development, during which there is a sequence showing a driverless Fordson Major plowing and the guy is stood on the headland with his remote control box working it. Suffice to say the idea did not catch on.

I was kidding a neighbor who asked about this same subject for his riding lawnmower. I told him that hew would probably just fall asleep while remote controlling his mower and it would wind up in the river :)

It may have caught on if that bugger had been plowing with a David Brown Implematic.

Yes, David Browns do belong in the river or at least a land fill
