I was bushhogging and took a break for about 1 1/2 hrs came back , no hyd for fel or 3 pt no noise no nothing, I checked fluid and did a visual inspection nothing seems wrong except for the fact that all my hyd. controls ignore me.This is on a 61 ford 971 which has the infamous s.o.s. tranny. which up to this point has not given any problems in the 5 years I've owned it the tractor will still move and functions seem normal except for no 3 pt lift or fel tilt or lift. Maybe hyd. pump? anyway to field test? Any and all ideas welcomed and appreciated

Thank you for your help it turns out that the gear that drives the pump stripped on the pump shaft I took it off and took it to a dealer for a new gear and I asked him what would make it just decide to go and he said probaly the fact that it's 42 years old,

I don't know a thing about your particular tractor, but I pulled a pump off a Farmall C once that wasn't working, and the key had fallen out of the gear, and was just spinning around without the gear moving.

Pull the allen head plug out of the pump on the right side. A spin of the starter will tell you whether your pump is working.Normally, however, it does not quit that suddenly. The usual cause is the unloader valve sticking next to the hydraulic cylinder under the seat. This sounds more scary than it is. The whole kit to rework it is less than 20 bucks. It has a valve that is operated by the conmtrol lever. The connecting link has been known to break where it enters the valve. Next to this valve is the unloader valve which is supposed to float. Sometimes they don't. That is te USUAL problem. Good luck.
