AC Model C does not start when the engine is warm

I have an intersting problem with my AC Model C. It starts up right away and runs good when the engine is cold. However, after I run it for awhile and the engine gets up to operating temp and I shut it off, it does not start. It is a magneto system and I have good spark. When I pull the plugs after cranking it they look dry. When I squirt some gas in the spark plug holes it still does not want to start. It only starts after I let it set awhile until the engine has cooled down. Then it starts up right away. What could be my problem? Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance. Regards, Gerald

Hi Gerald,
Have you tried stopping it by choking it off? If it restarts, or tries, it is almost certainly a fuel problem from your description. If not the valve clearance, maybe the manifold has a leak and only opens up when hot?
When you say a good spark, is it a blue (good) or yellowish (bad)? Maybe not firing inside the cylinders especially if the mixture is weak. Presume the mag impulse coupling is working, if it has one.
What are cylinder compression pressures when cold and hot? This is always a good diagnostic test and should be the first thing you check if you are short on ideas on the problem.
Are you cranking or is it electric start? Maybe the mag is not latching on the impulse if electric start.
Just a few ideas, but should be enough to at least keep you busy for a few minutes!
Let us know what it was when you sort it.
Regards, RAB

RAB,
Thanks for the reply. I will chase these items. I will try the choke kill first. If it is a gas problem, what would you suggest to solve it?

Thanks..... Gerald

Have you checked the valve clearance lately, they may be tight enough to bleed the compression off when hot and then close down when cool. Gene

Gene,
I have not checked the compression but will. What difference in readings from cold to hot would be a sign of trouble?

Thanks, Gerald
